no spring compressor needed on a 2WD vanagon. you'll need a some small jack to control how far down the rear trailing arm hangs, or front lower control arm.......... so the shock doesn't have tension on it .......... but pretty straight forward as shock changing jobs go. The rears are very easy, and the fronts not bad. Scott
