Hi all. This list has been an amazing resource for me, even though I didn't actually resort to asking for help very often — just knowing you guys were there to help made a big difference, and when I did ask for help I always got back lots of useful information. I only wish I had done more to reciprocate. Beatrice and I moved to South America a couple of years ago, and since we're not planning to return to the US to live anytime soon, we need to sell our air-cooled 1982 Vanagon, which has an aftermarket camper conversion package. We're asking US$4500; I don't know if that's too low or too high. It's in San Francisco. For those who are interested, there's an ad on Craigslist: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/879024828.html And a photoset on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/blmurch/sets/72157594456852086/ I did try to take good care of it mechanically when we had it, but I was learning as we went along. I ended up rebuilding the engine in 2006 (a new head and four new pistons and cylinders), with help from the list; it's still running, but hasn't been driven a heck of a lot. Like any Vanagon of this vintage, it needs an owner who's interested in working on it. Kragen |
