I don't remember it being quite this simple. The left mount interferes with the turbo a lot more than you may think. By the time you trim it enough to clear the turbo, it may be too weak to support the engine. On the factory 1.6TD vans, VW used the Quantum manifold and turbo setup, which places the turbo at the forward end of the manifold, as opposed to the middle. As Scott suggests, it would be very easy to tell if you remove the left mount while the original engine is still in the van (support it, of course) and attempt to attach the mount to the Jetta engine.

I just installed a waterboxer tranny in my diesel Westy. I trimmed 13mm from the shaft.
