My 1.8T (AMU) has 163K miles, and has been just fine. Burns no oil (maybe 1/2 qt) between 10K changes.

I don't trust CR's opinions at all. They criticized the original Rabbit for not having turn signal indicators for both left and right - which only means that their testers were too stupid to remember which way they were going to turn. That's their target audience.

For any other product about which I'm knowledgeable, they've always based their ratings on improper/poorly-weighted criteria. Maybe they're useful if you want ratings for a dishwasher or garbage disposal, but I doubt it.
