As an administrator, I heartily agree, and I've a van I know little about, and it, on par, has many issues which I'd know could be resolved very easily at a camp out. If I place my feet in a wrenchy's shoes, I quickly realize that would be inexcusable. One method of empathizing is to assume the enjoyment a wrenchy may gain from assisting a fellow cult member . . . er VW owner, is inversely proportional to the knowledge/experience/skill that wrenchy possesses. This is precisely why blokes like me will gladly help * anyone* out.
