Subject: Questions on Winterizing a Vanagon
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I will be putting my 84 Westy into storage for the winter on Nov 1st, as to avoid the Michigan Salt, and it will not be driven until April next year.

I’m doing a fresh oil change and need to determine the best process for fuel.

I have a two part question????

Part 1.

Is it better to store the van with a full tank of gas, or a ¼ tank?

I plan to run it low and add fresh gas just before storage too.

Part 2.

Since Gasoline starts to breakdown over time, I understand that a fuel stabilizer should be used.

The two products I’m considering are:

1. Sta-Bil

2. Sea Foam – which indicates it is a Fuel Stabilizer, as well as Injector Cleaner, and fuel drier along with a ton of other claims.

I’m leaning towards trying the Sea Foam for this winter… and wondered if anyone else has tried this or can give me a compelling reason to use Sta-Bil?

Thanks!

Jack R.
