this makes the 2nd relatively minor accident on an air bag equipped car or truck that I've heard of this week where the air bags where 'the main problem' almost. Same thing for my friend...........minor accident that barely hurt the car, both air bags went off, bruising my friends arms, and breaking the windshield ( the passenger's side air bag broke the windshield, not the minor crash ) ....... it's a fine running 30 mpg 1995 Ford Escort Wagon.............initial estimates are right on what I guessitmated - $ 2,960.00.........and the car runs fine ! I had to tweak on the hood mechanism a little to get it to work, headlights aren't broken or anything .........yet I'll bet they total this car........... mainly due to the air bags which caused more harm than they prevented. I'm really surprised that air bags aren't tied to vehicle speed - so they'll only go off above say 45 mpg, or something, to prevent low speed deployments where they are not needed at all. Makes me glad that our vanagons don't have air bags in them. and the basic fact that they are mandated by government, and you don't have a choice about whether they are armed or not............. don't like that idea at all ! And ............since children were even getting killed by air bags .............some states passed laws making it legal to have an on/off switch on the passenger's front air bag. I think very modern air bags are somewhat smarter though.............might even have two stages of deployment, instead of the 'full on only' earlier air bag systems. I could just about de-arm the air bag in my 88 740 Turbo Volvo sedan. Only one in that car fortunately. The horn on the Ford Escort...........got stuck on too............we think from the driver's air bag going off. Funny how laws are made to protect dummies.

I hate this time of year, traffic report this morning ( Wash. > DC metro area) had 3 deer incidents in one report. Jeff
