With the engine off, push down each pedal. It could be something to do with the pedals. Could be a clevis (as was mentioned) or bushing worn to the point of letting parts rub that shouldn't.

I found that on my '81 the clutch pedal clevis hole was *much* more worn out than the hole on the brake pedal.
