Not that this was being suggested as an alternative, but just in case anyone is tempted..... :^)

I ain't no expert, but I recall asking at a metal fabricating shop about welding EMT. They said yes, one could weld it (in my case using a MIG) BUT, the EMT surface should be prepared by grinding them down a little at least 1" from end(s). Even then I wouldn't be confident doing it as I'm not certain of the metal content or depth of galvanized material.

My understanding is that welding galvanized is to be avoided anyway. (nasty fumes).
