RE: Side Markers/Reflectors Actually the requirement is side visibility and the Vanagon meets that requirement with the side marker light and reflector combination. Been that way for 40 years now, started with either '67 or '68 model year in the US. I believe it is now Eurospec also. The visibility requirements are met by designers in various ways over the years. Most vehicles today simply wrap the tail lights and front turn signal/marker lights around the side so no individual lights are needed
