"our way of attaching the Kelty Carport is a bit rube-goldberg-ish and is mostly OK, but it didn't hold up well to a recent uphill wind gust ..." My method might be to, but I tie the velcro strap around the rear top-top hinge, run a tight bungee or line to one of the tie down in the luggage rack. Held up in some strong gusts for me, but I did stake outboard edge down to the ground as opposed to using expanding poles. That's the beauty of the Kelty CarPort though .
