Heh...us'n old navy types think it goes like this: When in question, when in doubt, Run in circles, scream and shout. Dip the ensign, fire a gun, Hoist the signal up: Well Done. Vessels that have guns typically don't have lifeboats. Motor whaleboats, Admiral's barges, Carley floats and such (and these days, RIBs i.e. Rigid-hulled Inflatable Boats) in plenty. Lifeboats, no. The basic lifeboat for a sailor is his whitehat turned upside-down (and/or his dungarees with knots tied in the legs). Officers better know how to swim.... And ya cain't salute the flag, cuz the only flags we've got are the signal flags in the flag bags up on the signal bridge. The ensign -- you can salute that. And if you're enlisted you can also salute those other nuisances running around that call themselves ensigns. If you're not enlisted or a warrant officer, they have to salute you. :-) ex-peckerchecker At 10:20 PM 10/17/2008, joel walker wrote: >When Confused and When in Doubt, >Run in Circles, Scream and Shout, >Lower the Lifeboat, Fire the Gun, >Salute the Flag ...
