Coolant is not corrosive if changed periodically, I don't think stainless should be necessary. Can't see that it would hurt.

The one in my GL radiator is not a hex head but a round head with a slot (like a screw head). I'd guess that doesn't really matter either. Hex head would be easier to turn from the side with a wrench.
