Subject: Re-Sealing Gas Tank again
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

I re-sealed my gas tank for the 2nd time yesterday. I did this back in March of 2005 but slowly over time I have begun to have the gasoline smell when the tank is full, and saw wet lines at the expansion tank connections on the driver's side. The problem was 2 things: I used some of that cloth covered type of fuel line for some of the connections and it was those that were leaking. And I used some hose clamps that I think were too big so that they didn't compress the hose evenly and caused it to crack under the clamp and leak. In this redo, I got some nice quality, proper sized clamps from Ken at Vanagain, and replaced all the hose with the solid rubber hose by Gates from my FLAPS. I also replaced those 4 plastic intermediate tubes with just continuous hose. That eliminated 8 connections and hose clamps from the system which I think is a good thing. Especially since those connections are not accessible without dropping the tank. I hope there isn't a reason that part of those 4 lines have to be made of that different material. Today when I cleaned up the leftover mess, I found that 2 of those plastic lines have crimps in one end of them. I wonder if they need a flow restriction for some reason?

Edward
