It's right that 84 was the outer bearing size transition year but even
85 spindles came 2 ways, manual steering or power steering. It is
important to have the right and left be of the same steering type though
less important which type as long as they match. Any matched pair of 2wd
spindles will work on any version of the lower control arms as long as
you have the correct complete front brakes to fit them.

If I had need for a new front spindle of any 80-85 version I would just
buy a used set from 86+ along with the 86+ front brakes since they are
much better.
