Man I knew I saw a spec somewhere....

but it was in my Haynes Air Cooled Vanagon manual.

AIR COOLED Haynes sez: "If the friction material is less than 1.00 mm (0.039 in) above the rivet heads, ........"

Anyone know if that spec is the same for the WBX clutch disc?

I *think* it may be.

I used the tail of my calipers to check thickness of clutch disc material on my air cooled. (Gotta new clutch now)

Not sure if it's been suggested, but check the condition of the cross shaft and check for any excessive play between shaft and its bushings. Make sure the throw out bearing tube is secure.

Cheers,

Neil.
