Hi Rob,

I have toured Gettysburg and Antietam battlefields and museums while en route to EveryBus. They are definitely worth checking out.

If you are going to be near Antietam then I would also recommend a visit to Harper's Ferry. There is a KOA campground there that used to be the site of a VW bus event known as "John Brown's Buses". Harper's Ferry is a VERY scenic little town with a great deal of civil war history. The founder of John Brown's Buses, Jamie Auch, found civil war bullets in the side of his house (A historic property on the edge of the National park) while doing renovations.

The KOA campground is situated right on the site of the original army encampments. When we stayed there in 2004, the campsite my westy was parked on was right next to a trench which was originally dug to support a gun emplacement. There are many plaques set up within the camp to point out these features.

Happy Trails,
