I had an '85 manual that bucked almost every time I passed through the 2800 RPM mark. It ran fine everywhere else. After cleaning a lot of grounds, replacing old sensors etc, it turned that a new ECU fixed the issue completely.

If you have one available (I bought mine for $50) it's a quick check that could save you a lot of time.
