Yeah -- my fuel line replacement is just such an example.

I read all the stories of fires and everyone saying you MUST replace your fuel line, so I did.

And, once I had the original line out, it really looked like it was still in pretty good shape but I figured new is better than 17 years old, so I was still thinking I did the right thing.

Now, not a month after doing the job, the new line is apparently disolving beneath the protective sleeves....
