Hi Michael,

I was surprised by those numbers as well, but the compression tester is only a few months old and I have no particular reason to doubt its accuracy. I previously used it to check a good-running T4 air-cooled engine and got 120's all round. It took a few turns of the engine to build up to 180, usually the first stroke brought a 120 and every time the cylinder being tested "fired" the needle would come up a bit. Once it stopped increasing I wrote down the number for that cylinder.

There was a fair bit of carbon on the spark plugs on the 1-2 side; it might be that the increased compression on that side is a result of carbon build-up.
