As another way of stalling getting the SVX-Caravelle on the road, I'm wondering about converting the van to dual-slider. I had a LHD 69 Bay that had been very roughly converted, and have had a Hiace dual-slider, and found that having a slider on the driver's side was very useful. VW vans are modular in construction, and I am thinking about converting my 84 to dual. Of course a later-model slider could be used, as the whole doorframe would be grafted into the body. Has anyone on the list done this conversion? What would folk, preferably in the LA area, want for a righthand slider and door opening complete with everything (body-cut) that would be needed to weld into a RHD van? Complete door with latches, handles etc, central locking contacts, central track for rear slide, frame with upper and lower tracks... If I considered it worthwhile, the seller wouldn't need to do any paperwork to send it to New Zealand, as it would only have to go as far as a container depot in Compton, LA, and the shipping outfit would do all necessary forms etc. It's basiucally a send-and-forget thing.
