Hi John,

You'll need to replace metal parts and the interleaved friction parts (all "user replaceable") and there are some spilt rings/seals. I did not replace the latter and should have. I'm going to pull the thing apart again to do these. There are also bushes in about 5 places and I was ignorant about these. I can look up the part number for this kit if you wish - as none of the people I talked to at the time mentioned it. These are basically ?bronze? ferrules in which the pump shaft fits in various places. (www.transmissionpartsusa.com have: 710-000071601 71601 Bushing kit VW, Audi 010, 087, 089, 090 ). Wear allows ATF to pass by when it shouldn't so pressures decline - the same with the spit rings.

There is the brake band.

There are a couple of paper gaskets and some other seals that should be done at the same time. (There is a "transmissions seals" kit. . the elring Part No is 010 398 007 B "Gasket set". The screen and seals for the pan and the seals for the governor are included in the Gasket Set.

Depending on wear/new parts, there MAY be a need shim or two to limit endplay. A maens of measuring this (as per Bentley) is needed, but it is reasonably straightforward. The shi I needed cost a couple of dollars. (You also need to tension some bolts to lower values than a normal tension wrench will allow.)

You most definitely do not need any jigs or any sort and there are only two (or maybe one) tolerances to be concerned about.

My pan was very clean so I did not op[en up the valve boduy, though WILL do that too one day. This is basically to clean it properly though.

You would be strongly advised to have the torque converter serviced too as it should be cleaned out at the same time.

I had no need to look at the diff though there IS a little bit of play there now. The local VW guy said they were as tough as any and shouldn't need any attention.
