Yeah, I had this damage a few years ago on my '86: http://buncombe.main.nc.us/~emaglott/pp010/index.htm

Nationwide adjuster was really a jerk. They said the $1700 damage totalled the van. I got nowhere until I talked to my agent and then magically the thing was settled. I seem to remember the argument was about wether I would end up with a salvage title or not. I ended up getting enough $$ to repair it and no salvage title.
