I've lived in northeast Florida for over three years, with very hot, humid summers, and my van has never overheated.  And I've put over 70,000 miles on a wasserboxer engine (five years) with an indeterminate number of miles on the engine when I bought it.  Furthermore, I've had it up to the Georgia and South Carolina Blue Ridge mountains in the summer camping and never had it over heat or stress to the breaking, or head warping point.

I do use full synthetic Mobil One 15w-50, so you may be better off investing in synthetic oil instead of an external oil cooler.

Just my experience.......

Cheers, Anthony '89 Syncro GL (Hidalgo)

Does anyone use an external cooler? What is your set up, opinion, experience? Got pics?

Would I remove the existing oil-to-coolant cooler and block off the existing lines from the water pump?

My thinking is that it would help to extend the life of my engine, especially in the hot southern summers.
