Hey Now Frank...

I didn't mean to hit a nerver there. I did read it. I tried my grill...didn't work, maybe I have something different. Maybe I can try again. But say I do get it to work with an external tank...and I can connect the blue, brown and black wires (as you said) to a battery. How do I generate the spark? Don't I need to connect the single black wire to something as well.

To everyone, Frank's treatise on fridges is excellent and extremely helpful. It would be hard to work on the fridge without reading his article.

WHAT ????? It says in my VW Vanagon Westfalia Dometic Fridge Maintenace document, to use the tank, hose and regulator from an ordinary barbecue unit. That's all you need to know ? AND, I have told you this on the phone more than once ! NOW read this carefully - use the tank, hose and regulator assembly from an ordinary barbecue unit, connect the end of the hose that WAS connected to the barbecue to the propane connection at the rear of the fridge.
