George, the Propex heaters have passed very strict European standards in regards to safety, probably more strict than the US. You can read all about the units at the manufacturer's website: http://propexheatsource.co.uk/products01.htm The Propex is designed to be installed inside the van as are almost all modern heaters. About the only variable that could cause a safety issue is incorrect installation.
