this was funny.. i love that BBC show "Top Gear" where those crazy brits
test sports cars ("test" is a understatement, its more like "attempt to kill"
LOL) and then they do all kids of crazy modifications to cars, and put them thru
hell.
anyway the one episode last week they were making amphibious cars.
they picked a toyota pickup truck (hiace)
and a triumph convertible
and a early 80's vanagon highroof diesel camper..looked to be a UK
conversion, like a Devon highroof camper or something..
anyway... they had to make them seaworthy..
the toyota got a 250hp honda outboard motor welded to the tailgate... and
the Triumph got a mast and sail..
and the vanagon had the propellor welded to the main crank pully.. they all
had hulls grafted onto them.. the vanagon looked like a houseboat when it was
done..
anyway they had to drive them to the water.. the vanagon overheated the
diesel motor twice because they filled all the engine openings with foam.. LOL
it finally had to be towed part of the way by the toyota..
anyway they all made it to the water somehow and the vanagon snapped the
propellor off the back when it went down the boat ramp into the water.. so it was
in the water with no power.. and it started to sink.. even after
borrowing a spare portable outboard it still was sinking too fast and it went to the
bottom. the toyota actually make it most of the way to the finish line but
the 250hp outboard was too powerful and it nosedived..and flipped over.
the triumph with the sails actually won the race, even though it lost reverse
and couldnt back up the boat dock.
funny show.. all cars were thoroughly trashed but they had fun doing it im
sure :<)
