I haven't done a Vanagon alternator but I've replaced the bearings on a few
others. If you're comfortable with basic mechanical work its pretty
simple.
You can get the bearings at any bearing store - there are identifying
numbers on the races that lead you to the right replacement. I bet the
diode plate is more expensive from Bosch than a rebuilt piece! :-)
