Subject: Propane heaters..

Propane is heavier than air, so it settles to the bottom of ...whatever. In yachts, it can be a big danger because they are shaped just right to collect any leaking propane aboard the vessel. My Alaskan Camper has a locker for the tank. It's made of PVC with some holes in the bottom that vent through the camper bottom, in case any propane should leak..There are some louvers(to the outdoors) in that locker door, too. If you must stow a propane tank inside the van (I do) I put it in an airtight cabinet (below my sink) and I have made some vent holes right through the floor to the outside...so in case it does leak, the propane will escape to the outdoors. Probably not the safest thing in the world, but neither is having the tank hanging under the van right behind the front wheels, vulnerable to rocks and stuff. I tore a tank like that right off my old Dodge camper van in Baja...Didn't blow up, but we had cold meals for a time. Disclaimer: I ain't saying you should carry propane inside..But millions of people world wide do it..I sometimes even rip the tags off my mattress' Don Hanson
