Exactly. The one nearest the road was the worse off in mine. I had a hell of a time getting the new ones back in, since they had not been compressed over the years. I used a wonderbar to pry some distance between the steering components where the disk fit into place. Since then, having easily removed the steering column and shaft to pull the dash, I'd spend a few minutes doing that that all the frustrating prying.
