dear misplaced
sorry to hear about your purse loss--
i feel terrible when i lose things that are valuable to me --
i have been in a couple of total loss fires and had all my personal
possessions destroyed by a vexed insane person --
anyway the story is about what to do not what i feel like when the reaper
arrives --
ok there are several people on the list who have vanagons completely
destroyed by various methods --
are ignition, lock and key sets part of the scrap out inventory?
barring that option if no one steps forward with a complete set you can buy
then R & R yours
then slip off to local scrap yard and have them remove ignition, lock and
key set from a vanagon already in the bone yard
and having said that (here is where we speculate a little)
i am not 100% sure but pretty sure that a competent locksmith has the
ability to pop the tumbler out of any lock ..
make a few changes to the pins inside the tumbler--
then cut new key to fit the new coding --
expensive ... maybe even an insurance deal to cover this cost ...
good luck
yours

There are two kinds of jobs in the world:
Picking up garbage and telling people things.
Successful people do both, with the same good attitude. (riw)
