Given the age of the Vanagon, most likely they were either on microfiche or on paper. Most of the paper books and 'fiches got tossed as they moved to electronic. Probably there are copies kept in the archives at Wolfsburg, but the VW dealership in Downtown USA that's moved three times since the Vanagon was retired, don't count on it.
