This is becoming increasingly common. They are not discriminating against you or your VW but only against your steel key blanks. Ask around. There are still a few locksmiths around with the equipment to cut steel keys.

I don't recall if you are the same Patti who bought e-code headlights from me. If you are or even if you are not, but are in the San Francisco area, Millbrae Lock & Key has cut my steel blanks in the past.
