Turns out (I found out after sending this post) that they're going to pay for another tow to my mechanic so that they can conduct a comprehensive once-over and provide an ACCURATE estimate.

I was trying to bridge the gap between needing to get the mechanic work taken care of and having a body shop that wouldn't touch it.

Turns out it's not going to be an issue after all!
