Yes, I'd try the dealer first. I once dropped off my '85 Jetta at the dealer for a heater core
recall and forgot to leave a key. They phoned me, and said they could cut a key from the VIN
for about $8 IIRC, so I said go for it. If this doesn't work, the driver side door handle can be
removed very easily. The slider door is also easy, but you run the risk of damaging the inside
panel material or clips to get at the inside.
