Hm. My local VW dealer is pretty much like any other: not especially helpful or knowledgeable about 20 year old vehicles that have not even been sold in over a decade. Try to drive a 20 year old Ford Escort (if any that old are even still on the road) into a Ford dealer and see if they are falling over themselves to attend to it.

I've not found deliberate hostility -- just ignorance of old models that they hardly ever see.

Our local dealership does have a beautifully restored 60's era Beetle on the showroom floor. It's not for sale, though, and it's presence doesn't mean that they know beans about older VWs.
