Zoltan,
I have been having a problem lately with later model Vanagons (86-91)
not starting after a tune up.  I have found that almost every time the
problem is a wire on the coil.  There is a small black wire that goes to
the coil and is on the side of the coil that faces the engine.  If this
wire goes loose or corroded the van will not start and you will not hear
the fuel pump come on when you turn the key.  Put a new end on the wire
usually fixes this problem.  The whole van is disabled by a wire that is
the thinnest on the whole car!  Just something to check.
