On mine ('88, '91, now my '87 Syncro Westy ... all were Westy's) it's the fronts. Not only the centerlines, but the shoulders, both due to the effect of the weight of the van "scuffing" the tires while turning, and the slight lateral "wander" in crosswinds and around trucks on the freeway. On all my other vehicles, over the years, it's always been the drive-tires depending on front or rear drive. My Passat is front wheel drive and they wear almost twice as fast as the rears. I had a '70 914-6 and '70 2002, both rear wheel drive, and the rears wore much more quickly than fronts. Bob > On a westy (1.9l) vanagon, which tire positions tend to wear > fastest/slowest?
