Don't waste your money on a code reader for a VW... get a VAG-COM - http://www.ross-tech.com as you can do a LOT more than just read codes with this - you can do everything the VW dealer can do with their billion dollar machines.  Works great on the Vanagon too when you have a TDI installed in it!  :-)
