Angus,

Right on. BTDT! Never take a car when you can fly! Well, maybe a Vanagon.

I watched a guy repair/rebuild an all wood, German competition sailplane. The thing was magnificent in its construction, and the finish was so smooth it appeared to have been made of plastic. But is was all wood and fabric with some metal hardware. It had landed in a place where it went between two trees and sheered the wings off right at the cockpit. Talk about messed up. "The Man", in this case, rebuilt that thing so perfectly that from wing tip to wing tip there was a mis-alignment of only one millimeter, so perfect was the workmanship. I love and appreciate fine craftsmanship. We have some guys on this list who are the same way. They are really fine craftsmen on our machines. When they take on a Vanagon project, whatever it is, it is going to be done to perfection - much better than factory! Bob Donalds was like that - a true artisan in the trade. I really like that.

Regards,

John Rodgers 88 GL Driver
