Don't use the search function on the archives.

Instead use Goggle and add the phrase "site:vanagon.com"

In other words when searching for info on drum brakes, put this in the Goggle search bar:

drum brakes site:vanagon.com

Try it.

Hi Volks,

This morning, I did a search through the archives, and once again, it timed out before the search completed. I would like to put forward the following proposal, which will improve the searchability of the archive going forward and will not change the current operation of the list one iota.

Google groups has the ability to subscribe to an existing list and then archive all of the posts that come to that list on google groups. It does not take over the list, but rather acts as a list member. It then provides a way to easily search the posts that it has. Currently, Google groups does not support transferring of old messages into its archive, but may at some point in the future, which would be really useful.

I think this would be a good addition to the list and one that will make it much easier to search in the future.

What do you all think?

Peter

Please note - During the past 17 years of operation, several gigabytes of Vanagon mail messages have been archived. Searching the entire collection will take up to five minutes to complete. Please be patient!
