Subject: Freeing up a frozen engine?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252"

Scott's reference to Coke as a rust-remover for freeing up a frozen Van engine, etc. is no B.S. Coke IS a super rust remover, we used it all the time at the boat yard where I once worked. If you found an 'anonymous lump' of rust (an old crescent wrench or a widget of some sort) in the bilges of a boat, a few days in a vat of Coca-Cola would remove all the rust..completely, restoring it to shiny condition.

Not sure how that cleaning action might affect the bearings in the lower end of a Van motor though.

As for the 'airplane mechanic' with the stored motor under his porch.... There is a make of well known very fast "experimental" kit airplane...a Long-I-Z or some such. Canard wing with a pusher propeller. It uses a VW boxer motor! Talk about being not too smart...Would you fly around with your life depending on a waterboxer motor's dependability? I don't think so...Hope he wasn't planning on using the "Porch motor" in his Long-EZ kit plane.... Don Hanson

Re: Frozen engine

this is really good for a laugh. The guy is building an AIRPLANE and he's not smart enough to store an engine half properly ???? ! Makes a great story though. Surprised it didn't use a little oil, or smoke some at least. all fun though. Scott
