Mike,
The front end bushings, etc., in my Syncro became very squeaky, reporting
every road variation that I drove over. The front end was entirely rebuilt
not too many years ago, but some good mud baths at Syncro de Mayo took care
of the "excessive quietness" the rebuild had bestowed upon the beast.
Now I bathe all accessible rubber parts with silicone lube, the kind that is
OK for rubber, whenever the front end raises it's squeaky voice. So far, so
nice and quiet.
I also spray any fasteners or other surfaces that I don't want to become
rusty or corroded.
Just be careful not to spray the brake rotors, else they might become very
rusty - at the junkyard, where your Syncro could end up if it cannot stop!
Be sure to remove any contaminants from your brake rotors, with brake
cleaner or other non-greasy cleaner.
And if after all this the noise does not stop, you have at least performed
an important diagnostic!

Vanners,
My '87 syncro suspension has always made noise but on an 800 mile trip over
thanksgiving it started getting louder and continuouser [yes that's a word.
Look it up in the dictionary. My dictionary]
Questions:
Is it likely to be a sign of something seriously degrading in the suspension
[front mostly]?
What's the best stuff to put in there to quiet it?
If it's likely to be a sign of something serious my thought was to shoot the
quietener [another real good word] stuff in there starting at the bottom
connections. Shoot one per side. Drive it. Check for noise. And move up.
Sound like a good plan?
