Before you spend money on a new stereo, check your speakers.

I found the rear speakers in my Westy were totally trashed, (which
explained the poor sound from the back.) Considering the age of our
Vanagons, it isn't at all unlikely yours are just as bad.

THEN if you want to spend money on a new Stereo.....go for it.
