The 1197311005 originally was equipped on a variety of 80s era BMWs and 88-89 Porsche 928s. It was also a replacement # for 78-81 Porsche 928. However, like the 1197311011, both are essentially interchangeable as a replacement (along with 1197311028, 0192205007 and 9190087010) and are sold as Bosch Short # 30091 or OE VW 068 903 803 D (or DX). All of these are what's known as the "Button Housing" Voltage Regulator used on all Water Cooled Gas Vanagons and most Air Cooled Vanagons equipped with the AL114X alternator that used this style of regulator. http://www.airheadparts.com/viewDetail.asp?strMasterCat=&idproduct=7748

An earlier version of the AL114X used a "Rectangle Housing" Voltage Regulator (Bosch 0192052005/VW 028 903 803A) which is NOT interchangeable because of a difference in that alternator's Slip Ring size. http://www.airheadparts.com/viewDetail.asp?idProduct=7747
