The oil cooler coming loose would leak oil. The only way for the oil cooler to lose coolant would be for it to have a hole, or a leaky hose. Look carefully. More likely you have a leaking water pump, a hose, or one of the small pipes going to/from the cooler.

Hey Volks

2.1 stock wasserboxer in an '86 Westy

I installed a new oil cooler about 7 months and 2,000 miles ago. Just recently (within the last few days) my Vanagon has been leaking coolant at about the rate of one drop every 3-4 seconds. The leak appears to be coming from the seal between the oil cooler and the engine case and only when warm. Could this be due to the oil cooler nut having come loose/the seal failing? My other though is that the diaphragm has failed. Should I be looking at getting a new oil cooler or just the seal?

Thanks, Andrew
