Another option is the excellent Vredestein Comtrac Winter, which we sell for $125 each. It features a proprietary Silica compound and directional tread pattern, and received the top rating in a German road test comparison. It is designed for passenger car comfort and is not unusually loud, yet at 1800 lb load capacity exceeds Vanagon requirements. For all but the most severe winter climates, this is an optimal tire for combining snow handling, dry road performance, and comfort. I use an older version of it on my own Vanagon.
