Subject: Westy fridge in warm climate noisy and hot?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I recently bought the Vanagon camper 1984 with plans to bring it to Maui. I'm just about ready to take it to the ship but have been am concerned about the fridge. I recently went on an overnight camping trip to see how the fridge ran on propane. There were periods when it was warm that the fridge seemed very noisy. Not sure what was running might have been a fan. But it sure was noisy and I finally had to turn it off in order to sleep. Later I noticed that the fridge seemed to produce heat in that van from the propane. My concern is when I get to Hawaii which is even warmer than it is here in San Diego County that the fridge will be noisy and over heat the van. I have a recently been reading about the truckfridge and how quietly it runs. Then the problem is how to run when away from power source because it doesn't run on propane. I was thinking of putting to large batteries under the back seat and running the fridge off that when I'm away from power source. Then I wondered about installing a solar panel to keep them charged. From what I've learned so far it doesn't seem like a good idea to try to charge them off the alternator. Anyway I would appreciate any input or experience that others have had in this area.

Can the Westy the fridge overheat the van?

Is it noisy in a warmer climate?

Is it noisy when it runs off propane?

Is it warmer when it runs off propane?

Does anyone know if the truckfridge is quiet as they claim.

Any tips on how to power the truckfridge.

Any suggestions about solar panels to power the truckfridge.

Thanks for any suggestions, DJ
