European lights have a hole in the back side of them for a park light which is also known as in these parts a "city light" - not sure where that term came from as it is illegal in Germany to drive at night in the city with only your parking lights on.  To translate literally German to English it would be called a "standing light" or park light.

Signal markers in European vehicles come on only when you signal.  So at night, the yellow lights on your van stay off unless you signaling to turn.
