Thanks, guys. It was a bad contact behind the fuse box, where the wires come in to the box. Or at least that was part of the problem. There was indeed a burnt spot on the cover, and though that fuse had the metal sliver intact, the back part where it wraps up over the ceramic dowel was burnt off in back. New fuse didn't do it, but new fuse plus cleaning off the attachments in back did the trick.

Not sure if I want to try the rear defroster again... At least not 'til it's light and I'm not going anywhere. At least I now know which fuse pertains.

Guess I'll start studying those wiring diagrams, too.

They come that way from the factory. Just like the melted innards of the blower switch, though that takes longer to show up. <g> See my remarks on overloaded circuit...
